What If It Works?

The Question That Keeps You Up at Night

If you’re a senior executive thinking about starting your own consulting business, you’ve probably asked yourself:

What if I fail?
What if no one hires me?
What if I can’t find clients?
What if I run out of money?

When I left corporate life after decades of stability, I asked myself these questions.

And there were some more. Really burning questions besides my desire to start something own. Something that would inspire me until the rest of my professional - second - carreer.

Then I realized: I was asking the wrong questions.

The Fear That Almost Stopped Me

When I finally started consulting at 54, I had decades of industry expertise and deep market understanding.

But none of that removed the fear of stepping into the unknown.

đź’ Who am I without my title?
đź’ How do I position myself?
đź’ Where do I start finding clients?

It’s the exact moment many executives face:

Tremendous knowledge.

But fear of the first step.

The Turning Point

One day, I stopped asking “What if I fail?” and started asking:

What If It Works?

What if you could…

  • Build a sustainable premium business around your expertise
  • Work only with clients you respect
  • Enjoy freedom, impact, and independence
  • Turn decades of experience into real value

That question changed everything for me.

And it’s the question that starts every successful consulting career.

What I Wish I Had Known

Here are essentials I learned over the last decade building my own business:

1. Your corporate skills transfer—but the game is different: Entrepreneurship requires clarity, speed, and decision-making without perfect data.

2. You don’t need to reinvent everything: Proven models, templates, and frameworks already exist. Use them.

3. Clarity beats passion: Know your client, their problems, and your monetization. That’s what creates momentum.

4. Your network is your new power: Start rebuilding it before you quit. Visibility creates opportunities. I started 10 years ago with "0" LinkedIn contacts. You can accelerate this by starting now.

5. Your niche determines your success: The moment I focused on just one segment of the multi-segment printing industry, everything changed. Your niche is your multiplier.

The Real Cost of Fear

Nobody talks about this:
The cost of not trying is far greater than the cost of failing.

Regret.
Untapped expertise.
Missed opportunities.
Years in roles that no longer energize you.

Freedom never experienced.
Every consultant who succeeds has faced fear.

They simply moved anyway.

So… What If It Works?

Imagine six to nine months from now you have:

  • Your first 2–3 consulting clients
  • Clear positioning and messaging
  • A supportive expert network
  • A business that gives you freedom, impact, and inspiration.

This is what happens when you shift from fear to strategy.

And strategy starts with clarity — which is why I created something for you:

A beautiful website will not save an unclear offer
When you move from executive to entrepreneur, visibility is not the first problem. Relevance is.  I hear this sentence quite often from senior executives who are preparing their next chapter: “I need to become more visible first. I have invested in my own website. It is almost ready.” I understand this very well. After many years in corporate life, we want things to look professional.A clear pr...
Going independent is not the risk. Building without a system is.
Dear Reader, In almost every conversation I have with senior executives considering the move into independence, the same fear surfaces. Usually late. Usually quietly. It sounds like this: "And what happens when, after a good start, there are suddenly three months with nothing?" I understand that fear completely. I have lived it. And here is what I have learned: those empty months are real — but...

Not everything. But enough to stop thinking in circles.Enough to move from vague ideas to a first structure. Enough to know:Who you want to serve. What problem you want to solve. How your experience becomes an off...
