Can you even go solo in today's world?
I hear this question more and more often lately.
Especially from executives who spent 20+ years inside major organizations.
They’ve led teams, owned budgets, driven international transformation. But they’ve never had to acquire clients themselves.
Never issued an invoice.
Never carried the full weight of responsibility alone.
And now?
Now there’s a new desire on the table:
- More freedom
- Make their own decisions
- Reap the rewards of their own work
But the thought still lingers: Is this even possible anymore?
What many forget: It was never truly "safe"
The world was never predictable — we just built systems that gave the illusion of safety.
→ You were part of a system
→ You had a budget
→ You had a title
→ You had the tailwind of a brand, not necessarily your own network
But what happens when the system no longer needs you?
When your role is suddenly “restructured”?
That’s when the real question begins: What’s left when the business card disappears?
Few remember: it’s never been “easier.”
Yes, it’s a different game. But it’s also a better one — for those who know how to play it.
- You don’t need to invest in physical assets
- You don’t need an office anymore
- You don’t need staff
- You don’t even need a traditional brand
What you need is clarity, a strong network, and the right tools.
We live in a time where:
⚙️ AI boosts your productivity beyond what was possible 5 years ago
📈 You can market your expertise digitally — without gatekeepers
🤝 You can collaborate globally, build cross-border mandates, and still stay lean
In other words:

Yes, you can go solo, but not just "somehow"
Going independent today doesn’t mean:
Renting an office.
Hiring an agency.
Trying to teach yourself how to post on LinkedIn.
It means something else entirely:
✅ A calculated risk, based on real experience
✅ No rigid franchise model, but true entrepreneurial freedom
✅ No leap into the unknown, but a proven structure with tools, processes, and a strong network
And above all: Not a start from scratch, but a start from strength.
"But aren't there already too many consultants?"
Yes. There are many.
But very few can truly consult at eye level.
Not every client can (or wants to) work with the Big Four. And not every problem can be solved with PowerPoint templates.
Especially small and medium-sized businesses are looking for:
🟢 Advisors who know business from the inside
🟢 Sparring partners who’ve made real decisions themselves
🟢 People who can execute — not just present
Industry expertise isn’t a niche. It’s exactly what many clients are missing today.
What this means for you
If you’re thinking about going independent, don’t ask: “Is this still possible today?”
Ask instead:
Who do I want to go this path with?
What kind of environment will help me build what I envision?
You don’t need a big-name employer anymore to be relevant. You need a network that makes you visible. And a model that gives you structure — without stealing your freedom.
Final Thought
Going solo today isn’t a risk. It’s the most strategic response to a changing landscape.
And yes, you can start your own business.
But not with outdated beliefs.
Not with half-hearted decisions.
And certainly not with one foot still in the old system.
The difference between “I’m thinking about it” and “I’ve done it” is not a business plan. It’s a commitment.
PS: If you know someone who’s considering the jump into independence — forward this newsletter.
Maybe today is the day their “maybe” turns into “now.”
